The 10th Steering Committee of the SATREPS DREAM (Area-BCM) Project

Bangkok, THAILAND – On Monday, June 19th, 2023, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, the 10th Steering Committee Meeting of the SATREPS Area-BCM (DREAM) Project took place in a hybrid format at Room 301, Visid Prajuabmoh Building, College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. The objective of the meeting was to provide an overview of the project’s progress and discuss upcoming activities.

Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., served as the moderator for the Steering Committee meeting, which had a total of 18 participants attending both onsite and online. The participants included professors, researchers, project coordinators and assistants, as well as students.

Prof. Dr. Chakkaphan Sutthirat, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University and Project Vice Chair of the Steering Committee, delivered the opening remarks for the meeting. He expressed his delight in witnessing the positive progress of the project’s work from the various working groups. He also highlighted the excellent collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders, including governmental agencies, collaborative entities, and the private sector, as a result of the strategic workshops on Area Business Continuity Management.

 

During the meeting, representatives from each working group provided updates on their progress. Here are the updates from each item:

Development of Flood Inundation Model for the Industrial Parks: Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anurak Sriariyawat.

Community Research: Presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sutee Anantsuksomsri.

Development of a Toolkit to Analyze the Impact of Flood Disaster on Employees’ Commuting: Presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tartat Mokkhamakkul.

Area-Business Continuity Management: Presented by Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng.

 

Following the progress report presentations, a session for questions and comments was opened to facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences among the participants involved in the project. Positive feedback was received, and there were no objections to the issues presented by each researcher in their respective working groups.


In terms of project administration, Mr. Yoshiaki Miura, the Project Coordinator of the SATREPS Area-BCM Project, announced that his availability for the project would come to an end in mid-July 2023. Mr. Yoshiaki Miura expressed his gratitude to all the members for their cordial support throughout his tenure.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Chakkaphan Sutthirat delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all the participants from the working groups and collaborative entities. He acknowledged and appreciated the collective efforts that had led to the continuous and successful progress of the project. It was highlighted that the implemented works would contribute to enhancing the project’s performance, with the goal of achieving complete success.

 

The SATREPS DREAM (Area-BCM) Project is a joint research project between Japan and Thailand under the SENDAI framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The project is schemed to launch a sustainable economic growth platform through disaster resilience enhancement at Industry complexes in Thailand and input to ISO/TC292 by the year 2023.
